In an interview published in the Sydney Morning Herald, the CEO of the tech giant Apple, of course, Tim Cook suggests that there will not be a merger of macOS with iOS: “I do not think that’s what users want.”
Here’s what Cook told the paper:-
“We do not believe in diluting one because of the other. Both the Mac and the iPad are amazing. One of the reasons why they are both amazing is because we drive them to do what they do well. And if you begin to merge the two, you begin to make compromises”. “Maybe the company would be more efficient with just one operating system. But that’s not what it’s all about, as this merger talk that some people are fixated on, I do not think that’s what users want”. Rumours suggest that the tech giant Apple will use its own processors on Macs, leaving out Intel. It would be necessary to create an ARM version of macOS, but this would not necessarily lead to unification with iOS. Of course, this does not prevent an Apple design for universal apps. According to Bloomberg, developers will be able to create a single program that works on both iOS and macOS, adapted for touch or mouse/keyboard. This should be announced during the next WWDC conference. The tech giant Apple still sees tablets and laptops as different devices for different situations. “I usually use a Mac at work, and I use an iPad at home,” says Cook. It’s a different strategy from the tech giant Microsoft, which unified Windows 10 for PCs with or without the touchscreen, for laptops with ARM processor, and even for Xbox One.
